State Linksters Conclude Fall With Eighth Place Finish At David Toms Invitational

BATON ROUGE, La. - The Mississippi State Bulldogs concluded the fall season at the David Toms Invitational in Baton Rouge, La. at the Country Club of Louisiana, with an eighth-place finish after their 7-over-par showing.

The Bulldog linksters notched a 292 in the third and final round to drop one spot from their first-day standing. MSU finished eight-strokes behind fifth-place teams Southeastern Louisiana and Rice and 15-strokes behind winner and host-school LSU.

State's true freshman Robi Calvesbert was the Bulldog leader for the first time in his career, with a 1-over-par career-best 214 through three rounds, which included a career-low round of 67 in round two. Calvesbert was also among the leaders in par-4 scoring and pars made and finished a career-best tied for 21st among the 75-player field. Sophomore Lee Heaton of Mississippi State finished tied for 28th after firing a three-round score of 216 and was among the leaders of birdies made, with nine.

MSU's true freshman Mike Genovese posted a team-low third round score of 72, to bring his three-round total to 217, placing the youngster in a tie for 33rd among the individual field. Genovese also notched one-of-two eagles made by the Bulldogs at the David Toms Invitational, when he eagled hole number five in the third round. MState's true freshman Brad Mason finished one-stroke behind Genovese going 5-over-par at the three-round event, tied for 38th and was the team-leader in birdies made with 12. Sophomore Brooks Bankhead rounded out the Bulldog lineup with a 54-hole score of 222 and was the team-leader in pars made with 38.

MSU will return to the course in Gainesville, Fla. on Feb. 13 at the Gator Invitational.
