STARKVILLE, Miss. - Chalk up another honor for Mississippi State University baseball signee Daryl Norris.

The pitcher/infielder from Fairhope, Ala., this week was honored by the National High School Baseball Coaches Association (BCA) as the Louisville Slugger Player of the Year for Alabama. Member coaches in 47 participating states and the District of Columbia made the selections.

Earlier this summer Norris was named to the Louisville Slugger High School All-America team. He has also been honored as both the Gatorade Alabama Player of the Year and the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s Mr. Baseball for 2010.

The 6-1 right-hander compiled an 11-2 record with a 2.31 ERA and 108 strikeouts as a senior, helping lead coach Stu Fuller’s Fairhope High School Pirates to a 35-9 record and a berth in the 2010 AHSAA Class 6A state semifinals. Norris also played four different infield positions, batting .444 with 67 runs scored, 65 RBI, 13 doubles and 11 home runs.

“Once again, we are proud to join Louisville Slugger in honoring these fine young baseball players from all across the United States,” said BCA Executive Ron Davini. “These players have been selected by coaches in their jurisdictions as the best player in their respective states. We’re certain we’ll be hearing more about these players in years to come, both at the collegiate and professional levels as their careers develop.”
