STARKVILLE, Miss. - MSU freshman pitcher Nick Routt, named to the 2009 SEC All Freshman team last month, has been accorded freshman all-America honors by PingBaseball.com. Routt was a third-team selection on the 2009 All Ping! Freshman Team compiled by the Omaha-based web site devoted to college baseball.
The Silver Spring, Md., product moved into MSU’s starting weekend rotation during the early going of the 2009 campaign, concluding his rookie season with a 5-3 record and a 4.15 earned run average. He paced the MSU pitching staff with 87 strikeouts and 86.2 innings pitched and shared the SEC lead with four complete-game pitching performances.
Routt’s four complete-game pitching performances came on successive weekends in league competition, including a nine-inning, 12-strikeout gem April 4 in State’s 8-3 win over Auburn.
