State Lady Netters Through Day One Of Seminole Invitational

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Mississippi State's women's tennis team wrapped up the first day of Florida State's Seminole Invitational Friday with key wins in both singles and doubles.

Play started on Friday morning with two rounds of doubles, followed by the lone round of singles. It was a rough start for MSU, as both doubles tandems fell in the first round.

State's pair of Natalia Mayuk and Olesya Tsgvintseva did rebound; however; for an 8-6 triumph over the University of Denver team of Bauregger and Schnoy, placing the Lady Bulldog pair in the fifth-place match of the Garnet Bracket tomorrow afternoon. Meanwhile, MSU's Valeriya Makarycheva and Danielle Terpko dropped their final match of the day in an 8-2 loss to Furman's team of Preeg and Maurice in the Gold Bracket.  

It was much of the same for the Lady Bulldogs in singles action. There was a mixture of some impressive wins and tough losses on the day.

One encouraging performance came from Mayuk. The State sophomore ousted Jessica Preeg of Furman 6-4, 6-4 in the Black Bracket. Not to be outdone, MSU's Danielle Terpko also picked up a straight-set win with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Maurice of Furman in the White Draw. Meanwhile, Lady Bulldog netters Tsigvintseva and Makarycheva each lost in the first round.   

Mississippi State will be back in action tomorrow and Sunday at the Seminole Invitational.
