STARKVILLE, Miss. – With the temperature dropping and wind-chill numbers hovering around the freezing mark, Mississippi State head football coach Sylvester Croom moved the team’s second spring practice inside the Palmiero Center on Tuesday.

The head coach continued to be impressed with his team’s outlook on the work, and adjusted his assessment of the group’s first day.

“Really after watching the film from (Monday) – aside from the quarterback-center exchange – we did some good things,” Croom said. “I like our enthusiasm. Coming off of the bowl and offseason workouts, we look like we’re having fun and working hard.”

The Bullldogs worked out for just over two-and-one-half hours on Tuesday, focusing on “discipline and the little things,” Croom said.

The head coach also mentioned the continued progress of redshirt freshman running back Robert Elliott and the work of newcomer O’Neal Wilder.

Croom said his defensive group was “ahead of the game,” and singled out the veteran safety corps of Derek Pegues, Keith Fitzhugh and De’Mon Glanton.

“All-in-all I’m pleased with the work we’ve done, but we won’t be able to tell anything until we put the pads on,” Croom said.

State will have one more practice in the NCAA-mandated, three-practice acclimation period of shorts and helmets on Thursday before putting on shoulder pads Friday afternoon. The first week of workouts will conclude with Saturday’s full-pad practice.
