STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State sophomore basketball players Ravern Johnson and Elgin Bailey have traveled to the Dominican Republic with SCORE International for a mission and basketball trip that will see them play four games through Monday, Aug. 12.

Johnson and Bailey are part of the nine player roster that will open the four-game stretch Friday night against the Dominican Professional Team. Other SEC representatives on the squad include Albert Jackson of Georgia, Lucas Hargrove of Auburn and Will Poole of Ole Miss.

Following Friday night’s game against the Dominican Professional Team, the two teams will meet again on Sunday. The SCORE contingent will face Team Washington on Saturday and San Carlos on Monday. Prior to each day’s game, the group will participate in a mission endeavor which includes distributing food to villages, visiting local orphanages and attending church services.

Johnson averaged 2.5 points and 1.0 rebound over 29 games in his rookie season with head coach Rick Stansbury’s Bulldogs. The Lyon, Miss., native tallied a career-best 11 points in a season-high 14 minutes in State’s win over Lafayette at the Mississippi Coliseum on Jan. 5.

Bailey, a second-year player from New Orleans, averaged 1.5 rebounds and 1.7 points in 31 games a year ago. He chipped in a season-best eight points twice last season, including MSU’s 80-74 win over Arkansas on Feb. 16.
